Am I Writing Another Book?

My first novel Liberator released about a year and a half ago. Since then, there hasn’t been much, has there?

Am I writing another book?

Yes. I have, in fact, written two novels since Liberator.

Here’s what happened: I wrote the first one. I didn’t like it, got mad at it, and wrote the second. Then I came back to the first book, apologized, and started revising. Revision became rewrite, rewrite became massive retooling. This one’s a runaway train: its length has nearly doubled. But I like it now. The story’s shaping up. The downside: it still needs a couple months’ worth of work before it’s ready for my wife and friends to start critiquing.

What’s it about? That’s a secret for now.

Is it a sequel to Liberator? Nope. Different thing and better.

Is it The Winter Palace, the book you tried serializing on this site for a while and then quietly shuttered? No. That was the one I wrote because I was mad. I’ve got a completed draft of that one waiting on revisions. The Winter Palace is a really cool story, an extremely unconventional fantasy. Revisions will be substantial, and the length will probably balloon big-time. As I write more books, I’m starting to learn that’s how I work: my first draft is a tangle that expands and clarifies through revisions. Okay, every writer’s probably like that. But my first drafts seem to come out with holes waiting to be filled in. There were chapters I’d published on the Internet, and I took them down. Why? Because the final product will be almost totally different. It’s a year or two away at best.

Anything else you’ve worked on? I got to have a major hand in editing my Pastor’s first non-fiction book on Christians and alcohol. You can take a gander at it here.
